Emmie's Having a Bad Day Vote for this post

Yesterday, we took Emmie to see her Vet and got her last shot of the year...a Lyme shot. She was quiet when we brought her home and a couple hours later, she began to shake and pant. She had had a reaction to another shot a couple of years ago and they told us to give her a Benadryl so that's what we did. We gave her ice water and ice chips the rest of the evening and by bedtime, the shaking had stopped and she wanted in her crate. We checked on her several times through the night and she slept for the most part. Today, she still isn't quite herself but no more shaking or panting. She's eating good and going to the bathroom although she's been very clingy, wanting to snuggle on the couch. I hate to think of her having to go through this again next year and wonder if any of you have had a pupper have a reaction to a shot and what you decided to do about it. Right now, she's watching TV with her Daddy and we just had a walk around the yard so hopefully, she'll be right as rain by tomorrow. Sadly, our vet is practically "part-time" only working till 5pm 5 days a week and if anything happens after that, we have to travel almost an hour to see another vet. It's infuriating in this day and age that we don't have a reliable vet service or emergency care...
Love, Deb and Emmie Sue

Deb,I really hope Emmie is more settled tomorrow after her shot..the only one I think ever reacted quite bad was Stiggie the kitty once  but we send Big Prayers that she will be alright now and at least the shaking has stopped,I guess shes a bit more clingy for security of it all.its a shame the vets  are not available 7 days near you...we are lucky urs are 4 miles away and have emergency hours also...will look in tomorrow and see how Emmie is doing and thinking of you all

Emmie's back to herself this morning (Wednesday) and is sitting in a sunbeam, enjoying the beautiful weather we're having today. I'm so glad she's showing no more effects from that vaccine and plan to talk to her vet about what we can do before she gets any more vaccines. Hope you and Bibsy are having a good day!
Love, Deb and Emmie xxxxxxxxx

Poor emmie sue, so sorry she had a reaction to the shor
Mine never had except for a sore hip from the rabies shot. Glad the ice and benadryl helped. Give her a hug from Ollie. God bless her. Keeping her in thoughts and prayers.

I hope Emmie is back to normal now.  None of my terriers have had issues with their vaccines.  My BoBo will have panic attacks sometimes from weather issues or just out of nowhere.  He shakes and pants. terribly.  It can get bad sometimes.  Very scary.  I have medication for him when that happens.  Love BoBo, Jewel, and Mummy Louise

We hope she does not have to go through it again.

Maybe a Benadryl before the vet visit might help.

Love Riley and Allen.

So sorry to hear that Emmie had a bad reaction for her Lyme shot. Her symptoms seemed worrisome. Poor little girl. Deb so good that you took action and did all you could while she was going through that. I was glad to see your update that she is much better and enjoying a pretty day and feeling much better.
